Former church with steeple is now a condominium. Building with Canadian flag is the firehall (which is this side of the tree & out of sight).
Blossoms
Picture of blossoms taken with deliberate view into the late afternoon sunlight.
I love these blossoms set against a pure blue sky.
Another view of the tree. See the old victorian style houses in background.
Tree set against a more "modern" apartment building circa 1950-60s.
A small Rhododendron bush with red flowers.
That "thang" in the foreground is a rosebush not yet in bloom.
Kinda neat the way the rose bush in foreground looks like the V in the turkey breast =]
I just love the red colour in these flowers.
This is some kind of ground flowering bush...actually a few different kind. Perhaps someone can tell me what the purple one is.
Isn't it glorious? But what is it =] ?
These tulips look like they are behind bars in jail and trying to escape, lol.
A close up of the lonely tulips.
A small, crawling holly bush hanging down a retaining wall.
Another ground plant of which I do not know the name. Please feel free to leave a comment if you know what this ground cover is called.
It is beautiful in full bloom. I like how the gardener set it against a piece of sun washed board.
A unique house in the "hood". I love the variety of trees.
Daffodils (yellow). I think the bluish flower is a young hyacinth. These are planted by "guerilla" gardeners on public property.
It has been so cold that most of the trees aren't even in bud yet. But sun is expected to remain for a few days and the weather hopefully will warm up.
I love big ole trees with their nooks and crannies and leaves and moss growing on them. You can see "younger" trees in back.
I grew up where there were lots of birch bark trees. This one has similar kind of peeling bark but I'm not sure if this is an actual birch bark tree. Perhaps it is a more "mature" one.
A young bamboo bush set against an older house.
This is what many sidewalks in my neighbourhood look like. Lots of trees, plants and oriental type archways. Can you see two of the archways near the houses (right)?
Beautiful branches against a clear blue sky.
Here is a close up view of the archways on the right. I guess these ones aren't so oriental after all but the lattice work makes me think of oriental for some reason.
A very friendly cat in the neighbourhood. When I called her over she immediately rolled over for her tummy to be scratched. I didn't try it in case she wasn't that friendly, lol.
Ivy growing on an old tree trunk.
Lovely!
This is Vancouver's City Hall with the Canadian flag flying atop.
This is a northern view from the eastern corner of City Hall. The view is toward the City Centre and the mountain range.
Another northern view to the City Centre. As you can see the sky near the mountains has more clouds! Weather here can sometimes be unpredictable (code 'rainy') due to the coastal mountain range.
This is a southern view to 12th Avenue from City Hall. This is a busy thoroughfare.
Tulips in front of City Hall. Again I love that vibrant poppy red colour.
Someone with last name Greer who apparently was a senator and a Mayor of the city. I never actually heard of him or took his picture until today.
Front entrance to City Hall. See the willow branches framing the picture. I love willow trees but these are not yet in bloom.
There is a side view of Mr. Greer's bust.
An eagle sculpture which will be auctioned in Spring 2010. I gather there are number of them and you can bid on them. In years past they auctioned sculpted bears and cows.
A plaque explaining the auction of the Eagles.
The front doors of City Hall. You can see the carvings above the doorways and the date, 1936.
I love this big ole tree at the corner of 12th & Cambie. Cambie is another major thoroughfare and a new subway had been built underground for Olympics 2010. The subway is completed ahead of schedule but won't be used until September 2009.
I love the way these branches cover the entire building ~ almost like gauze =]
A view towards the north (and City Centre) from the western side of City Hall.
Isn't it beautiful? The posts surrounding City Hall almost look like the towering skyline in the back
A street view of pedestrians & traffic @ 12th & Cambie (to the east).
This plaque commemorates a gift to City Hall of the large monument in the next photo.
This is the monument gifted to the City of Vancouver by it's employees on the occasion of the centennial birthday.
A view of City Hall from the west side.
Olympic flag is flying for 2010. It will soon be here.
This is a park like area dividing a residential complex and a mall at the corner of 12th & Cambie. You can see employees having a break.
I was trying to get a good close up of the Olympic flag but the wind wasn't cooperative.
This is the residential complex I mentioned in the previous photo caption. If u go up the stairs you will get to the park like area and the mall (wall of glass in background).
I thought this architectural feature was interesting. Behind it are the balconies of some of the residents.
This is the provincial headquarters of the Canadian Cancer Society. This building is just next door to the residential complex we just "walked" through.
Another view of the Canadian Cancer Society offices.
Now I'm heading toward Broadway, another major thoroughfare. But I just had to stop and take a photo of these beautiful blossoms =]
Aren't they gorgeous?
Stunning!
This is a side street off of Broadway. It is called Willow Street. City Centre in background (it is separated from this side of town by an inlet (water).
Close up view of the high rises.
I love this "lacy" view of the building with the red buds in foreground.
Here is a wider view of the same thing!
This man is obviously enjoying the sun =] though it is still rather chilly for this time of year.
I love that spot of yellow colour to the right.
I decided I had to get a better view of the trees.
And another....
And yet another....
And....I'm almost in Heaven =]
I think this is a beautiful natural frame for the highrises.
Lovely daffodils. I forgot to mention earlier that the daffodil is the flower adopted by the Canadian Cancer Society. I don't know if this flower is universal to all cancer societies or just the ones in Canada.
Look at the graduated building behind the lovely blooming tree.
Here is a better shot of the building. This building has absolutely spectacular views of the False Creek development to the north, especially on a sunny day. I saw it when I had to get root canals done. The view was my consolation prize.
Here is that lovely yellow building again but I am not sure the name of the bush. This is a small one of whatever it is as I know they grow much larger.
Broadway Street looking eastward.
I think this is a cool building for picture taking, especially when you want some cool close ups. But I don't really like the look of it.
Ah, the Holiday Inn (one of the many hotels in the City). I think you have some of these near you =]
View across from the Holiday Inn.
Your home away from home. Well after a few more blocks walk, I will hop on the bus to home. Thanks for walking with me!
